New digital technologies and media are giving rise to increasing volumes and varieties of information: on the internet, from sensor networks, and in mobile and ubiquitous computing environments. We seek to make this information more useful to people in their learning, work, cultural and social lives by developing techniques for managing, accessing and integrating it.† We are developing systems that support advanced information management and information retrieval requirements as arising in areas such as e-learning, e-science, web search and navigation, social networking, culture preservation, network analysis, and data mining and knowledge discovery from databases and from the web.
